Volunteer Point of View

To tell you the truth, had I been there for any reason other than volunteering as a “helper” in the VOH 5K Run/Walk on that rainy Saturday in June, I would have gone with my instincts, and stayed home!  I am so glad I did not.  I was amazed as I stood there (under a tarped pavilion), a cup of hot coffee-- donated by (Panera Bread) in my hand and an extra sweater on, ready to take down names and contributions from participants.
The thing that amazed me the most was not the number of people, who came, but the beautiful smiles and obviously loving hearts of the participants!  I cannot remember hearing one negative comment, and their spirits certainly were not dampened by the rain.  God looked at their faithfulness, and stopped the rain when it was time to run!  At the blast of the starting horn, from tiny ones in strollers to grandmas and grandpas, the Runners/Walkers took to the path of Victory.  As each tired, smiling face triumphantly crossed the finish line, I mused to myself…. “This is the Cream of the Crop of our society” I feel honored to witness such loyalty and dedication to a cause so worthy as Voice of Hope.
